The Precious Word of God

I found a very interesting article over at Sharper Iron. This young fellow by the name of Doug Smith hits the nail squarely on the head. We here at Bread and Circuses do not bash the KJV--it is a very good version that has been used by God, but we believe that there are other good versions with more modern language. We are wondering how long the false teaching of King James Onlyism will continue to be pushed among the hysterical fundamentalists. We are praying for a return to the historic and orthodox position on the Holy Scriptures--won't you join us? Check the article out here and enjoy!

Amen! I couldn't agree with you more, as someone who has, by the grace and mercy of God, come out of the KJO movement. I wouldn't call them "fundamentalists" tho. At best, they are pseudo-fundamentalists. They are nothing like the original Fundamental fathers of the late 19th and early 20th century. They are wannabees in what they think fundamentalism is. They have turned out a distorted image of fundamentalism, one of legalism and pharisaism, and have fooled a lot of people to follow after them. Jesus said of the Pharisees of His day that they searched land and sea for one convert and once they found one they made him twice the son of hell as they were themselves. They have made disciples after themselves. Hopefully, as those who love truth will continue to expose false doctrine, the false teaching of KJOism will die out in the next 20 years. Some of its most faithful adherents are getting up there in years while younger people are starting to search for the truth on their own. Yes, the KJV is a very good version, however, the English language has changed a lot in 400 years, making it difficult for some to understand, which sets up a barrier between the reader and the message in God's word. Those who favor the KJV, good for them. Those who also believe that God has allowed His word to be made accessible in updated language (as long as it follows orthodox doctrine), good for them.

Thanks for your good comment. My pastor and I just discussed this over coffee again the other day--the KJV is archaic and many refuse to accept that. I have an NASB for work and the ESV is the official version of God's Word that we use in our home.

You mentioned that you believe there are other 'good' versions with modern language. What versions do you consider good?

I often find that those who protest KJVO or KJB readers in general often claim there are other "good" versions but don't list any of the said versions.

I like the NASB, ESV, NKJB, and the ASV. Which update of the KJV do you prefer? ROFLMHO!

I totally agree with you on the KJV. I teach and preach from it, but yet I still have people making it an issue. I have started a blog that has my thoughts on the issue. It is just getting started, but I wanted to post my thoughts so that they could be a help to other pastors and those caught up on kjvonlism.
